3 Ways to Attract Top Talent to Your Startup

How to attract top talent to your startup in 2019

If your goal is to build an extraordinary company, then you must be focused on finding innovative ways you can attract top talent to your startup.

The best companies in the world like Facebook, Apple, Alphabet, Amazon, etc. are known for one thing, and that is, they design and adopt a framework that help them recruit and retain the most talented employees.

If you’re currently running a business or working for a start-up, you may have heard all the hype surrounding extravagant perks and benefits offered by several modern companies today.

This is especially prevalent in the tech industry, where it’s not uncommon for workplaces to be offering perks such as office yoga, bring your dog to work days, gourmet chefs, and much more.

But, why is the workplace focusing more on fun and entertainment these days?

Well, great employees, particularly those with technical skills, are often hard to come by today and the competition for them is fierce. And, talent is the key to business growth – the company who gets the best team wins.

But, if your business doesn’t have the money for Michelin star chefs and world-renowned yoga instructors, what can you do to attract and retain the best talent? Here are just a few ideas used by top startup recruiting agencies.

How to Attract Top Talent to Your Startup and Make Them Stay

1. Relaxed Dress Code

Not requiring your employees to come into work in formal wear can make a huge difference. It is one of the most laudable employee retention strategies many startups are yet to maximize.

If you visit a big tech company such as Google or Apple, for example, it’s rare to see anybody walking around in a suit.

Allowing a relaxed dress code in your office can help you attract top talent, particularly when it comes to the younger generation of graduates who tend to find the option of wearing what they like for work very appealing.

And, when your employees spend around one-third of their life at the office, being comfortable can lead to improved productivity too. Improved productivity will surely lead to boost in sales.

While we may agree that this employee retention technique is not popular, as long as it works for big-brand companies, there’s guarantee that it might as well work for you.

2. Offer Remote Working Opportunities

What are the chances that your ideal employees all live just up the road from your office? You may be doing everything right to attract the top talent, but a three-hour commute is going to put anybody off, and there’s little that you can do about it. Or is there?

Offering the option for employees to work from home can be a great way to widen your talent pool.

If there are jobs or offer that don’t necessarily need the employee to be present at the office, remote working (infographic) is a great option. You can from time to time give them tips for working remotely that will be beneficial to them and to your startup.

3. Come Up with Attractive Perks and Extras

Bear in mind that you don’t need to spend thousands of dollars on extravagant perks for your office if you want to attract top talent.

In fact, it’s often the little things such as free parking, office snacks, and early finishes on Fridays that are overlooked by employers.

Using an office snack service is a great idea; a well-stocked office kitchen is hugely attractive to talented potential hires.

You may be surprised at just how attractive these kinds of perks can be to your workers, who’d probably much prefer to spend some extra time with their family on a Friday afternoon than have a meal cooked for them by a gourmet chef and stay later.
